Entertainment in the 1930'S
“One thing I've learned about life is that if you really let go, it's just a joy ride.” - Ricky Williams stated this quote to demonstrate that if you just let go of everything, all your worries and sadness, life is just amazing and beyond great. This quote connects to entertainment in the 1930s because a people worried a lot. Although the Stock Market crashed, kids found out a way to have fun. But now that we passed all over that, let’s see how entertainment flourished.
To start, the movies were one of the most popular things for entertainment. In the movie “Tarzan, the Ape Man”, Olympic swimming champion, Johnny Weissmuller. Jean Harlow the young, ‘platinum blonde’ appeared in her first ever movie “Hell’s Angels”. B-actor John Wayne made his debut in his first movie, “The Big Trail”.

Now, dancing has changed throughout the years, but these dances are way older so here are three of them. The first dance that was called the “Swing” dance, the dance originated in Harlem. The dance called, “The Shag” first originated in North, Myrtle Beach, it was also known as, “a man’s dance.” The last dance that originated in Columbia, South Carolina, here it is, the one and only, “The Big Apple”.
Imagine, at the time before 90 inch flat screen televisions, computers, iPhones, or even Virtual Reality! Well guess what. It wasn’t even that long ago. Did you know board games like Monopoly, and Scrabble were made in the 1930s? By the way Monopoly was based off of the Stock Market and how it crashed. Some open-ended games like tag, hide-and-seek, and Simon Says were also still are popular to this day. Kids back in the day were not as rich as the kids now, but the richer kids had toys such as Erector sets, toy trains, and air rifles.
In conclusion, that was how entertainment flourished throughout the 1930s. To sum it all up, all of the dancing and games made it so that the 1930s would flourish. You can never forget about the movies too. Although, to the thought that the 1930s were going to be boring, it actually turned out to be quite fun.
